Gday

a couple of nights ago I had the opportunity to go on a evening tour to watch Green Sea Turtles nesting on Barrow island { near Karratha, north west WA}. Arrived on a very scenic beach on the western side of the island just on dusk and stayed for about 3hrs, before the light faded you could see numerous turtles breaching the surface just offshore and in the shorebreak. The beach itself was covered in turtle tracks and large depressions where they have flicked sand back on their nest.
As it darkened I counted about five I could see start the trek from the water to the sand above the high tide mark. The group I was with was only small so we watched one female from a respectful distance prepare a nest. The night sky was very dark and clear which added to the brilliant ambiance of the beach and nearby limestone cliffs, the turtle I was watching was perfectly framed by the scenery and rising constellations in the east { Orion, Taurus

}. I didn't have my camera gear with me so unfortunately I couldn't capture the moment in images to share but it was just great to sit and relax and take it all in.....awesome.
