What's this?

I've just found a strange object sitting in the corner of my lounge room.

It has a lot of dust on it so obviously it hasn't been used for some time, I was hoping that someone might be able to identify it and what it is used for.

I think it might be used for looking at points of light in the night sky but I'm not sure.

Cheers

Yeah Tony, I must have forgot about it seeing it hasn't been used for so long.

With no sky to look that, they have to find something to keep themselves busy

Both the Celestrons are 8s.

They are great scopes.
The black one on the SP mount is better as it has DEC and RA drive and with the
right software, can be used GOTO.
The orange one tracks pretty well in RA but it's a 240V drive which always worries me , especially when it's a bit damp.

Regrettably all three scopes are under used. Not much to look at in suburban Sydney.

Ric, how odd - I have found items of similar employment congregating under plastic chair covers in my house!!

Geoff, good to see Norman Linday Cats on the wall keeping an eye on things.

I think it's the rarely seen NeoMeadascopi a nocturnal creature that only comes out on cloudless, moonless nights after sunset and returning to it's home before sunrise.

Only seen on occassions in Victoria and NSW fequently in SA and WA and QLd

Sharp eyes!
I used to often visit the Lindsay gallery at Springwood and usually came away with a print or two.

Well that takes the biscuit...
Actually they're extinct in Qld too as they've starved to death due to lack of stellar nourishment.
mine has even been placed in it's casket ready for interment
Like a little R2D2 it is - but it bleeps no more - it is deceased - gone to meet its maker - shuffled off its mortal coil - gone to the telescopic playground in the sky.

QLD is the last place you'd go to see these rare beasts, they're all in hibernation this time of year

No no no they are pot plants! You just need to fill them up with soil and put a nice palm in there so it will finally become useful

Coffee Grinders !!! Or Rain Water Collection buckets, could be either, or both.
We're afflicted over here with Cloudus Infinitessimalasis as well. I wonder if there is life above the clouds, will we ever know, will my new 15mm EP ever get to see the starlight.
These questions and more to be answered in a forthcoming episode. Stay tuned to this Bat Channel.....
