Google Rox

The kids Golf has been parked outside for a few weeks, no spark. The coil was ok but I saw no pulse coming from the computer to trigger a spark. I got a KLine cable for it off ebay ($12 delivered), which is a VW type ODB cable so I can talk to the cars computer from the laptop to get a clue as to what's wrong. Sometimes it would start and run just fine but lately it just won't kick

First go it says no errors so we turn the key and it starts.

Today I try again and it won't start. The PC can't connect to the engine controller anymore, yet the immobiliser computer says invalid response, data wiring error.

I pumped the info into google and it tells me there is a relay suppling juice to the engine computer and the relay maybe suspect. I found the fusebox under the dash and all the relays where halve way out of their sockets. I pushed them all back in and vrooom, away it goes, Magic. Been driving it all night, starting and stopping all over the place and what a great little car it is

Took over a month to fix but only cost $12 to get a pointer to fix it and no tow truck. Thanks google, I owe ya one.

That's a great win story Robin - not without a bit of determination and effort on your part too though I suspect. Well done indeed

Well almost a complete win, it stopped again, would not start, I flicked the relay with my finger and it started. Ordered a new relay, needed the vin number to get it, and replaced it, $36.

I pulled the old relay apart, ripped the cover off, and there is a single dry joint on the PCB. It's a bit off when a single dry joint can stop a car from running, then again the thing is 14 years old
