Transportation...
Ok, how the heck am I meant to disassemble this 8" GSO into something transportable? Is there a case I can get for it or something?
Got a friend who lives 10km out of town on top of a hill with a clear view to all horizons...

I lay the OTA across my backseat and the base goes in the back.

Use the 2 foam inserts to lay it on, if you've got a station wagon.. otherwise, across the back seat as the others have said, and the base on the front seat or in the boot.
For around the house transportation, you could try a trolley.

What sort of vehicle do you plan to use as transport? How big is the back seat as opposed to the length of the OTA, and how handy are you?
This last question, you could make a set of stirrups to sit on the back seat to stop it rolling off, when you break.
Let us know the rest please.

Well it's a Hyundai Excel (2 door). Tis all I have. It aint that wide, and I'm not that handy (I'm a programmer after all!). I'm guessing my back seat might fit the OTA, but I have no back doors. I might try the boot.

All you need to do is get a tape measure and measure what the narrowest distance is, the Hyundai allows for both seats to come forward and also the rear seat if need. If the OTA fits, simply lay a blanket over the rear seat including the backrest and put the OTA on top. Then grab the part of the blanket that is on the back rest and drape it over the OTA. This should stop it from moving. And if you are still not happy with it, simply put a seat belt on it. And; as Tony has already said, simply place the mount in the boot section of the Hyundai (just behind the seat on the hatchback).
I used to move a much bigger scope in a gemini years ago and the HYundai is quite roomy in the back. Don't ask me how I know.

I've got a Hyundai excel hatchback (2 door), and i've measured my back seat, and my 10" OTA should just fit with a few mill to spare. Your 8" should be a bit shorter, so it should definitely fit.
I haven't used the Hyundai to transport it yet though, I've just used the family mobile station wagon, laid one back seat forward and sat the OTA longways on the 2 foam inserts.

I just lay the OTA across the back seat of my Falcon and secure it with the seat belts. The base is on the passenger seat and, if I take it, the equatorial platform goes in the boot.
Really must make a fold down version of the base so it doesn't take up the front seat.
