Clock drive voltage?

Hi,
I have a clock drive here thats 12v 60 hertz, I have a 12 to 12 at 60hz box designed for a 12v battery supply BUT can I drive it from a 12v battey charger or should i have a battery there to absorb 'fluctuations" and smooth the 12v? option B is I have a variable power supply (240 to whatever I need from 1volt up) would this be better? (4" BYERS gear on a AOS mount)

Battery chargers are notoriously rough in their regulation. I'd be using a battery in between as a 'smoother' on the first option.

Roger it is much better to use a battery, it is not recommended to use power directly from a charger of any sorts, as mention already.

Battery are rough for a reason, definately not to be used to supply power to products. A Battery acts as a giant capacitor which smooths out the regulation.

There are a few chargers that are designed for temp charging and are not really suited to be used at the same time, The Jaycar unit is one of these that are not really recommended as it uses a complex range of automatic charging methods that could interfere with equipment.
