8" Skywatcher Dob Base in Adelaide.

Hi all,

Anyone in Adelaide or within 50-100km, have a Skywatcher 8" f6 dobsonian base they want to get rid of? Only need this as a temporary thing until I get my mount. I have the OTA and side bearings, just need the base, I built one before which worked well, but no longer have it as weather got to it. I can pick up...

Hi Andrew,

Wouldn't consider building yourself a new base? I made one with a mate for an 8" f/4 scope. One good thing about this base is that the OTA can be removed from its dob cradle and mounted back onto its eq. mount. Best of both worlds this way. Cheap to build out of exterior grade ply (we just used C-D grade pine ply), a few bits and pieces and a couple of licks of paint, less than $60 for the mount. The excess ply (we bought a whole sheet) was then used to make ANOTHER dob mount for the kids 3" reflector!!!

I've included a pic of the 8".

I thought of building, but wanted a quick way to do it, I have made one before in 2006 http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...9&postcount=21 but didn't really want to go through that again...
