The origins of my name.

It just came to me. Ever since I was a young kid, I have been an avid amateur astronomer.

I cannot understand how it all started as I was too young to remember, all I can say is that it has always been there.

Then it struck me. My full name is Robert Neil Parker.

So I rang my mum Up the other day to ask where my middle name came from. And lo and behold, I was named after Neil armstrong.... Go figure?

So tell me people of IIS. How have you inserted your hobby/knowledge/passion of astronomy into society. E.g, have you named your child, Orion?

Rob

My cats are Rigel Kentaurus of Starex and Bellatrix Carina of Starex.

Starex being the cattery they came from.

Our wolfhound was called Cal for Callisto and our groodle is called Pallas. Both great dogs. The wolfhound used to lie on my feet while I did visual and the groodle takes up guard outside the observatory while I'm in it.

And our new cat is called LUNA. But my last name has nothing to do with astronomy but I thought i would mention its meaning anyway MAAG is Dutch and means stomach which at present is quite accurate but I am working on reducing its relevance. But the meaning of stomach in this context is supposed to mean bravery.

Well my cats were Missy and Bubby ( no longer with us ) and nothing to do with the stars.
Although Bubby was as black as night.

But when I was about ten years young at end of year at school was told you have the last week free and do a project on any subject we liked.
I chose the Solar System and have been staring at the stars ever since.

My daughter is an angel though as she has given me two heavenly grand children.

Ken.

The current occupants of my fish tank are NGG 22 and NGC 23.
Where NGC = New Golden Carp.

And some of the earlier NGCs were actually comets!
