I am continually amazed by the prices people ask and what they pay for second hand Astro-Physics refractors. Currently on Astromart there are two up for grabs..a 206 Triplet APO f/8 for $50K USD and a 160 EDF Triplet APO which is receiving bids on auction but the seller has nominated a buy now price of $15,500 USD (nearly double the new price)...these prices seem kind of ridiculous given there are alternatives (Tak, TEC) to direct one's $$$'s.
I guess rare and exquisitely figured scopes are like coveted works of art - wealthy people will pay the intrinsic value plus a large premium to own something that gives them pleasure. Fortunately it's possible for those of lesser means to gain just as much pleasure from simpler scopes - value is largely in the eye of the beholder.
Hope they all have 20/20 vision. Otherwise I cant see what the difference would be if you looked through an ap or dunny role. I for one would buy a tec or tak and go on the waiting list.
