Winners announced today and I believe whoever did win should know by now, so who where the lucky ones come one let the cat out , well done whoever you are
Well embarrassingly enough I received three prizes... I couldn't believe it!
I have no idea if I won either of the two categories I entered or just got honorable mentions, but either way I'm ecstatic! The pinnacle of my astrophotgraphy career so far! (I was actually unaware of the competition until this year!). Two were for the Moonlit Landscape theme and one for the widefield section.
I'm not too sure if I can/should post my winning entries yet however, or whether it has to be formally announced first via CWAS, but I can certainly post them here when I have the all clear. I'll email them tomorrow and find out!
Just gotta get to Parkes now to the dinner to receive the prizes! A long (but well worth it) drive coming up me thinks....
I received an email advising of 2 gong's, which I'm very excited about. I almost didn't enter anything, and only uploaded a few pics 2 days before the entries closed.
I'm pretty sure they're only Honourable Mentions though, given the quality of shots posted by Mr Ward!
I'm going to try and get out to Parkes again this year. I went in 2007 and it was great. Would love to catch up with some familiar faces again, and Anthony is giving a talk too!
Got one myself also,
Wasn`t really expecting any this year as didn`t have much to offer with everything in storage for 8 months but at the last moment like Mike I put the few I had managed!
I would be very happy it get a honorable mention!
Well done Wayne. It is a very long drive up. It took us a day and a half to get there from Adelaide. Wayne you can post now as the competition has been decided.
I am considering flying but am expecting a HM and nothing more. I entered several sections this year in DSO and Planetary narrow field but only was recognized for one entrant. This image I thought would surely get some recognition and the same for this one, but alas did not. I am certain that Anthony Wesley has won the narrow field solary system section that I entered. Yes I am a hypocrite but was talked into it by Mikey. Thanks BiG Sid.
Here is my entry. It is reduced in size from 1500 x 1250 pixels.
Best of luck to all that entered and congrats to all the winners.
Congrads Paul, oh and Marcus! I will know how you are this time!
You have done some outstanding work lately Paul, ex your DSO images.
But this sequence is just beautiful!
Lol, Thanks Mike! I must do something right with some of them
I really like that jetty one!
Here`s my one..
cheers
Mike I just got off the phone with Anthony and he tells me he entered three images in the narrow field, one of last years impact, one of this years impact and one he thought would win but did not get asked to supply full size copies. Two images got asked for full size ones. I am sure he will display his images here. With the impacts I would think he has got up for sure. Mine is a pretty picture but not in the order of magnitude. However, as I have come to learn, the criteria for selection is often not explainable.
Gary I love that wide field. You have captured so many excellent objects in that image. If you are a serial winner I am surely a serial HM winner.
Thanks everyone and congrats to the other winners! Here are my three winning entries. As Paul said with his entries I thought 1 or 2 others that I entered would have been judged as a little better than a couple that got up. But it's David Malin's tastes and thoughts which is all that matters. And to be judged to be a winner by a peer like that is fantastic!
I, like a few of you, almost left it too late and only got them in the day before it closed. I'm glad I did now! One thing that I do notice is that they look much different when printed compared to any computer screen. That's why I always print them off first before I submit to any competition....
It's 'only' 1000km to Parkes Paul! haha. Will knock that off in a day anyhow. I used to drive back and forth to Canberra from Adel when I was working there and its about the same. Maybe we could car pool?
Peter, I love the red planet shot. Seems like lots of people entered the themed section this year. Like you I am not sure what is happening with DSO images. I wonder who won the DSO section and who got HM's because there are quite a few regulars that did not get up from my count.
The level of entries seems a lot higher than the previous years though. That is positive for Australian astrophotography.
