NGC 6445 and 6440

Hi All,

This is a nice FOV and the planetary is quite a hard object as it has some bright parts and some extended Ha regions which really take some teasing out.

I found the colour balance to be hard to get right, I couldn't get enough red into the PN without the star colours going haywire.

Anyway, here 'tis.

L, Ha, R, G, B image (120, 120, 24, 24, 24 minutes). L & Ha blended 50:50 in CCDStack.

Usual telescopic gear (listed below).

Cheers
Stuart

Nice image Stuart. Maybe just a little clipped and there is a line running from top to bottom on the left hand side about 15mm or so in from the edge. Very nice field of view.

Never seen this PN before, very interesting...yet another added to the list.

Nicely captured Stuart, I imagine the faint "waving hand" in the upper-right of the nebula was the biggest tease.

Great framing there, and great detail in the PN.

Nice job Stuart!
Did you use the SCT or the RC??? Either ither with the ST10 are perfect to do these little suckers justice.. I think your colours look fine, but as Paul mentioned, your back ground is clipped.
I think you'll find if you sorted this, the extensions on the PN will become more obvious and the image as a whole might be easier to process.

What's with the line to the L/H side??

Other than these things, good effort and thanks for sharing this obscure morsel.

Background is clipped because I did the colour under a full moon, they had horrid gradients. If you take out the Luminance channel it's not clipped, but the histogram defaults to the RGB, which I don't really care about, the bits between the stars are black, so I just make them black.

Attached is a histogram of the underlying luminanace image.

The 8 bit jpeg can also turn out clipped as the dynamic range is compressed. I can't do much about that though.

The line on the LHS is from a bit of a mismatch between the two luminance layers, I should just crop it out?

Not sure about the extensions, 15 minute Ha exposures should have brought them out, they are very faint though.

Cheers
Stuart
