Toucam 900NC

It seems that this little thing will be available sometime late december or early January. Telescope and Astronomy will have them available. Nothing mentioned on an adapter available yet, it seems that the adapter for the 840K is not compatable with the redesigned camera, and requires a new one. Anyone heard of an appropriate adapter?

Below is the advertisement in Telescope and Astronomy's newsletter.

900NC ARE NOW AVAILABLE $185AUD
The 900NC is the new model of ToUcam. We are hoping the shipment arrives before Christmas. If not, beginning of January. Let us know if you want a PDF file of the new model's specifications. Also, let us know if you require details about long exposure modifications, either for yourself or if we do it for you.

It has the same chip.....??????

From first glance by the time you add the adapter and long exposure mod the cost is getting well up near $350-400

The adapter that will be needed will need to be a bit 'special'...more cost.

So, if it has the same chip it must just be the new look casing!

After reading through the link above provided by Asi it seems for Astrophotography that this new model will be a real pain in the butt! The old version is more robust and the threaded ring is strong. Not so with this new 900 model. Sounds like Philips do not consider Astro people when designing!

So it just the same as old one but we'll probably pay more to get it up and running. Makes the new Orion cooled camera look like a much better option for not much more cost.

There's a thread in the Cameras&Photography forum that discussed this new model about 2 months ago.

End result then was, it's a waste of space. It was predicted to be USB2, which would make it very special and worth getting, but it's the same chip, and it's still USB1.1, so there's effectly no difference between the current 840k and the new model.

Don't waste your money on it.
