First Weed from the Doghouse - M20 (and m21)

I took this last night (8/6/2010) in questionable seeing - the scintillation was terrible. Ended up with only using 2 minute subs the light pollution was pretty bad - all up 99x2 minutes (3h 18min) ISo 800 Cooled Canon 40D on the 127ED - all driven on the g11. Stacked in DSS and processed in Pixinsight 1.6. M20 AND M21 could have been better but it is my first from home

Oh, God. I regret having sold my ED127 now. That is a magical field of view.

Well done on your first M20/M21 combination from your new imaging nirvana (man, I wish I had my own place and an observatory... sadly, not for many years to come, I suspect).

Thanks H for your input.

As for attaining your dreams, well all you need do is get rid of that crummy 5DII and get your 127Ed back and with a bit of hard work you too can get a family, a morgage, buy a dome or two and live in light polluted Nirvana

Haha!

Have you found with your ED127 that the orange stars focus better than the blue ones? As in, when a Bahtinov Mask reports that an orange star is in best focus, if you were to slew to a 3rd or 4th magnitude regular star, they have an ugly violet halo. I found dialling the focuser back just a smidgen would remove the halo but still present sharp stars. They weren't as sharp as at perfect focus, but, still excellent.

Nah - prefer to have perfect focus and i like the halos - adds character and i know what is my image - helps give it some colour

Considering you say the scintillation was terrible, you'd have to be pretty pleased with this effort !! Nice shot - good colour processing there as well !!

Took a while to realise what the weed reference was....thought you may have been smoking some out in the doghouse or something

Anyway, looks like some good head , nice colours and the softness is actually pleasing.

Funny I had the same issue with the seeing the night I took my last weed image back in the first half of 2007 ...gee man, might be the bodacious time to do it again yerrrr...

Mike

LOL yes i was referring to the plant quality reference of the name - the trifid.....bring on the roundup....

Be great if you got a new shot with that big bruising beastie camera of yours

The seeing was terrible; the air was full of high cloud, smoke and water vapour down low with the jet stream screaming over the top.
