Looks great Rob, very sharp. It's been ages since we've had much lunar work posted. Keep it coming.

yes very sharp, Well done

i was trying to get a handle on John's sharpness comments by using the moon. the seeing was very good last night down here and the 5mm vixen was showing lovely detail in around this crater.

there were a series of other craters around it.

I am not sure if it is that there is less surface area to look at, or i have not had a good look at the moon for a while, but why am i finding such greater detail or more contrast or something than a full moon?

I believe it will be a mental thing, but the last week have given up loveley views of the moon that chew up the viewing time in smart fashion!

The crescent phases are always more pleasing to look at, rather than a full moon. A full moon is great naked eye, but through a telescope there's just no contrast, no shadows.

The shadows across the terminator really give you a feel for the depth of the craters and show you rilles and other details that you simply can't see when it's bathed in full sunlight.

Rob, that would be one of the best moon shots I've seen - crystal clarity from limb to limb! That LPI sure shines on Lunar stuff

cheers,

Dave, Yup pretty much what Mike said, at fullmoon the Sun's light is hitting
the moon square on from our point of view. As opposed to from the sides or
even rear which will cast shadows hightlighting the terrain. Just like when
you hold a torch under ya chin to greate spooky shadowy faces to scare the
kids, as oppse to shining it straight at a face which wouldn't be as scary at
all.

Thanks for the comments guy's, thought folks might be over moon shots

regards,Cs

Ving,

Did you see my Moon passing Venus shot, even though it actually did it some what
further away than is presented in my shot. And was around 20 degrees bellow my
horizon at the time lol. but I thought it was an interesting comparsion between the
two taken at the same mag.

That is one lovely clear shot. The good thing about the moon is it does not disappear like the planets, bit like an ex wife, it keeps coming back for more. But I digress, top stuff keep em coming.

Rob,

Wow, once again, that is a great shot!!! I always look forward for any lunar pics, and this one is at my favorite time/phase. By the way do you know what time it was when you took that pic? Thanks dt

Hey dt

Thank man...

Started at 20:55 ended at 21:20, so I started about an hour and tweenty
minutes after the moon reached quarter phase, by my caculation. Here's
the high res version if anyone wants it.
