Not if you ask "Mr Albert Viar", .

Nothing new all this activity. Only difference is media driven paranoia.

I agree. Nothing new at all. More population and more connectivity through technology=more reports of these normal activities.
People just need more education to build where it is safe.
Just look at the populations around active volcanoes. Would you live at the foot of Vesuvius?
At least with a cyclone you can build a shelter that WILL stand up to it.
Just my thoughts on it all.
Cheers,
Duncan

Funny, had the same thought as well and was wondering if there will be even something bigger in the pipeline.

I hope not, but that's mother nature for ya.

It must be Indonesia's turn or somewhere in the south east asia region.

But then again maybe that volcanoe in Italy.....or Turkey....Turkey always seems to cop it....

Yellowstone National Park is one Super Volcano that comes too mind.
One in Indonesia as well Lake Toba.
If one of these babies goes off we will all know about it.
I follow this site for Earthquakes
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/

And this one for Volcanic activity

The active nature of Earth is a big part of why it is habitable. We just have to learn to deal with it better.

People have lived around volcanoes for thousands of years because the soil is highly productive.

In the dawn times of agriculture those who lived there prospered. Today's cities like Naples grew out of that.

You forgot a couple of things....nuclear war, nanotech grey goo, alien invasion, ebola, sudden ice age, runaway greenhouse, sublimation of the world's entire methane clathrate deposits, judgment day, asteroid impact, planetary collisions, sun going supernova etc etc etc

Its cuz we're sucking all the oil out of the earth. The oil was a natural lubricant that allowed techtonic plates to move smoothly across each other. Now its all gone or going, the friction has increased so when they do let go, they do so with increased force. Its mathematically proven fact.

Either that or its the birth-pangs of the dark one as he is re-born into a world ripe for the harvesting of souls!

One of the two anyway.

I subscribe to the USGS earthquake alerts by email. I set the filter to email anything magnitude 5.0 or larger.

I would reckon that I receive at least 5 alerts a day, all perfectly natural processes in my mind.

Hi Tony, Hi All,

Hmmm! I just had to check out a site that intrigued me.
Are there any geologists among us? I just can't believe that what I saw can have any credibility. If it does then Mr A. is right we're all doomed.

Don't get me wrong, I would simply like to see comments by someone who has more geological knowledge than I have. I don't want this to become a religous criticism.

Looking forward to sharing your knowledgable comments.

Cheers Marty

Why ? It's New Moon. There is a moderate correlation between earthquakes and new moon/full moon.
