Hi JPS I suggest that you get yourself a copy of Hartungs Astronomical objects for Southern Telescopes, and the Burnhams Celestial Handbooks, they dont have the distances to every object but give a distance for most objects. NGC 7314 is a close by galaxy at about 35 milion light years, but its distance is not in any of thes two books.
To get data on all the objects of the NGC and IC catalogues, all 13226 of them you have to go to specific galaxy and other nebulae catalogues.
Try this site,it is absalutly fabulus
It will give you the scale of the Universe and some galaxy distances.
