Saturn 28th Nov.

Finally got you! She's been quite elusive, at 3am onwards here it's either been cloudy/fog/windy/crook seeing. It's nowhere near Bird quality though

What is that "scar" across the planets surface Could it be a registax anomaly..... I guess I'll find out soon, I have 5 more AVIs to go thru yet.

6" refractor + toucam. 639 frames stacked out of 1500.

Nice work asi.

The "scar" looks like a processing artifact, either from registax or jpeg compression.

Nice image Asimov, better than the coulds and rain I have around here :-)

The circular "scar" is a processing artifact as Mike says. They happen when you stack and process a lot of images that are heavily compressed and registax "sees" the compresion errors as if they were real data.

regards, Bird

Asi, Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing?

The darker belt that runs across the middle of planet is a feature.. the artifact that Bird and I are referring to is the circular line that runs around the outside of the disc.

That's a wonderful image Asi, I'd be wrapped with that one mate.
Can't wait to have a decent crack at ol' Ringo myself.

I was going to say the same thing as ICE and Bird, the dark belt across the face is a feature.
I assume you refer to the circular line around the planet's edge.
This asside, the image looks great on my CRT monitor.

Cheers

Thanks guys. Don't worry, yes I meant the circular line around the globe too. My next image has the same kind of thing, only it's turned into what you would think to be a shadow!!? Is there a way around this??
Me no like it!
stack less frames?
How does one get less compression?

Davo your naughty! Got the parcel today, cheers!

hee hee, just looking out for your ep's and want to treat them with the respect they deserve!

by the way, i have an old pair of jeans to clean em' with

compression, what frame rate are you recording at, what software are you using to record your avis.

that phillips software, i would change at the panel to 5 or 10fps, change the other option to 5 or 15fps and then in bink and smacker it would say 15fps!!!!

qfocus, iris & k3ccd all allow you to change the fps at the screen, without going into the back ground setting of the toucam.

I say old man, you have got the biggest value out of your new toy!!! How many hours have you used it!!!! Best money you ever spent outside of engagement rings (just in case micki is looking over your shoulder!!!)

Asi, drop the rate at which your capture frames. Just as Dave said. I usually capture at 10fps and on exceptional nights I capture at 5 fps.

They were taken at 10 FPS.

Hey Tony, I used to have my real name in my signature but everyone still called me asimov. It's John.

Actually I don't use the toUcam that much. Every oportunity I get obviously, but even when I do it's only about an hour out there at the most then it's pack up & start processing quick!! Time stacking & processing takes up quite a lot of my time.

I don't think the laptop is up to any more programs Dave. I'm running at 35% free space on C: as it is....But I could be wrong! Perhaps it will take one of those 3 you mentioned!? Advise needed in that area.

10fps, i am thinking it is registax 2.0 then

bugga!!!

or have you got a memory stick and transferring to the big puter and processing it in registax 3.0 and still getting probs?

how much space do you have left???

Yes mate. My next port of call is either a memory stick or an external hard drive. Yeah I'm still doing the stacking in registax 2 on the lappy. Space left on which computer? 35% free on the lappy. Plenty on the main puter.

Been rotten weather here since I took these shots above, so I thought I'd have another go at stacking the same AVI of saturn that the pics above came from. This time I carefully weeded out all the bad frames visually & ended up with a stack of 79 out of 1500. Mucked about with saturation/RGB split..blah blah as well.
