Bridge and Lights

When I took my Venus and Mercury Conjunction images on Friday, I also turned around and faced the other way, and took these long (15 seconds or so) exposure shots of the Hawkesbury River Bridge.

I also created my own diffraction spikes in the second shot using a bridge-side made star-cross filter I found 2 small straight firm pieces of dry grass on the ground, set the camera to 10s self-timer, pressed the shutter, and then held the 2 pieces of grass in a "+" pattern across the front of the lens

Was a fun experiment, i'll probably make something more permanent that I can use for the night light shots.

Thanks for looking.

Mike, Nice pics. Your *grass* idea reminded me of what an old (now deceased) chap, used to do. He was a member of the Illawarra Astro. Soc. years ago. He put a piece of FLY screen (full ap.) over the end of his 6" dob. The effect was startling. Talk about coloured spikes!! Something different eh! He used to attend the open nights when the kids came along.
Old Cec had lots of ideas like that. Great fella.
ps. our club pres. now has that 6".

Hi Rowena, If you want to attend the next meeting night, come to the Unanderra Comm. Centre on 3rd March about 7.30 pm. We meet on the 1st Thursday of each month.
Yes I was a member of the I.A.S. years ago, along with a few others.
Oh, check out my profile at the bottom of the post.
Just the facts m'am.
