Lightbulb GPUSB or EQDIR

Hi;

I have Orion ED80 APO on EQG Mount.
I want to use PHP guiding software for Auto-guiding purpose; and i believe it also controls the mount.

Pls advise which path i should go for.. GPUSB or EQDIR?
What is the difference?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Pratik,

Firstly, what guide camera are you going to use. If you use something like the Orion Star Shoot Auto Guider or the QHY5 guide camera, you will not need a gpusb or the EQDIR.

EQDIR will allow you to run the mount entirely from your notebook.. There are many advantages to this, however to begin with, keeping the setup as simple as possible is the key..

I would advise a guide camera like the Orion SSAG or the QHY5 with a separate guide scope. These cameras have a guide port built in, so you just run a USB lead to the guide camera, and then a guide lead from the guide camera to the mount.

You would then use the standard hand controller to operate the mount...

I would recommend the EQDIR, but have a serious look at getting a USB version. A few of the guys have gone wireless which is good too, but its 2 or 3 devices to achieve the same thing.

EQDIR will allow you much better pointing accuracy than you can achieve with the hand controller alone. Pulse guiding I have heard can be more accurate than the GPUSB I have heard, but to be honest if your guiding is working, its working! Seeing will usually mean you'll never see the difference.
