CBAT in crisis?

I get a lot of news via the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams - new comets, novae, supernovae, asteroids etc - but they're having problems. There is a subscription involved, but currently you can't subscribe for CBETs, MPECs etc because SAO (Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory) who were hosting the service have pulled the pin because it's not profitable. CBAT are desperately looking for another host.

I have my own opinions on them charging for the services in the first place, but that's another story!

Now, CBAT are not updating their webpages, reportedly because of problems with a hacker. The "telegrams" (emails) are still going out to existing subscribers though.

Pretty mickey mouse for an arm of the IAU if you ask me...

Cheers -
