Stolen - Public Holidays galore

Just doing some forward planning for work and needed to include provision for public holidays for Next Fiscal Year (July 2010 to June 2011) when I came across this.

According to the NSW Government website there will be no public holiday for Christmas this year. !!!

Well, Actually, if you work Saturday you will get one, but not otherwise.
Christmas Public Holiday is Saturday 25th December, 2010, then the Boxing Day Holiday is Monday 27th December, 2010. Go Figure!

Then New Year's Day 2011, is on a Saturday, and is not followed by a Public Holiday on the Monday.

And if you thought that was bad, Easter Monday 2011 falls on April 25th.
And of course Anzac Day is 25th April too.
So technically, we are getting both, but on the same day !

Three Public Holidays pinched in one year!

I guess "the Country" will be billions of dollars better off since we will all work a lot more. Hang on, just who is "the country"? Big Business ? D'oh! Ripped Off again.

What do you think?

I'de just like to know ..

1. WHATS a public holiday and
2. Who gets them and
3. IF you get it do you get paid for it ??

If the answers are
1. its a day off work
2. anyone
3. yes

Then I'm sackin myself and going to get a different job

There seems to be some doubt on the accuracy of my post?

OK. 1. It may only be NSW.
(I guess thats what you get when your politicians Bankrupt your state.)

And 2. It only effects people who work.
(some may need to check the meaning of that word too I guess).

BUT... this is the link. (hopefully it will change with public pressure from people suffering from 1. and 2. above)

Funny, I thought labor was meant to take care of blue collar workers and keep big business in check.....so much for that!

Not anymore. Thankfully, they finally realised that business needs a break too. Remember it is a partnership between both, not one lording it over the other.

In NSW and i'm not sure what other states employers in retail (which I work in), can make you work public holidays. The only public holiday I may get is Christmas day and I believe my employer is applying to Government for that to be a work day too.

I believe their main argument is that they are a business to serve the public, of which some do not recognise these "Holidays" therefore we should be allowed to open to support their needs on those days.

That is a fair argument, yet I believe that they do not care what-so ever about the needs of ethnic groups more-so the money they could be making.

(2) Average hours per week = 63
(3) Public Holidays we do not get!!!

(4) But come wet season like now we could go weeks or months without work - so hard to plan anything.
(5) Wet season blues!!!! Scope has sat idle for 3 months!

Are we having fun yet?
