Car stereo wiring?

hey guys, it's been years since i put in my last stereo and the colors are all different now.

Can anyone join up the wires for me? See pictures...

I have a crappy old Mitsubishi ute and a second-hand clarion...

Baz.

Hi Baz

I suspect that the (stereo) wires that are in pairs...aka the grey/grey with trace; the white/white with trace; yada yada are the speaker wires (4 channel). Probably one of the wires is an aerial earth..it supplies earth to make electric aerials go up/dwn and maybe the other 4 wires (yel/Or & 2 blue) are pre-amp RAC outs?? Only guessing on that and more than likely wrong as they are not coax wires.

Red for pwr & black for earth...other than that????

As for the car wires...best if your trace them & measure them for pwr & earth. You cannot sometimes rely on the car wires as they can be known to change coulours when they route thru connectors...so the only way is visual & measurement.

It looks as if the car wires are for a 2 channel speaker system where the radio is a 4 channel system.

Maybe you might find something here or from clarion here. Maybe type in your radio model number in the Clarion site.

Good luck

Thanks mate, it helps a little. Yes, the ute only has 2 speakers where the stereo has wires for 4. I assumed the four pairs were FR FL RR RL on the stereo. I can work out the wires for the car speakers by tracing them back but as for the rest, I'll have to test somehow as I am not pulling the whole harness out.

Hi Baz,

White pair = Left Front Speaker

Grey pair = Right Front Speaker

Green pair = Left Rear Speaker

Purple pair = Right Rear Speaker

Brown = Mobile phone mute

Yellow = Constant 12VDC for memory

Orange = Illumination

Dark Blue = Power Antenna

Light Blue = Amplifier Remote

Red = 12VDC Switched through accessory

Black = Ground

This is generally the standard Clarion convention.

Regards,

Stephen

Got carried away Baz ... forgot to include this
http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...itsubishi.html

It may or may not help ... hopefully it will be useful if you add it with the info you already know about.
