QLD Rego goes overboard.

Just got a rego bill for a V6 magna the boy child has here and prices in QLD for rego have sky rocketed. At least a 30% leap in one of the biggest rip off fees there is since stamp duty. $420 for 6 months rego.

Not only has this premier and her adolesent treasurer sent the state broke with their knee jerk reactions to everthing, but they are trying to do the same to me.

Unfortunately, rego on all our vehicles are due in the space of a month so it's looking like $1270 for 6 months rego, all due now with no payment options. Time to buy a horse .....

Haven't you heard that they have also compulsorily acquired all horses and sold them to a Japanese corporation for a fifth of their value.

comparison...not anymore it seems

My v6 magna rounds out at $600/year plus a six pack of bundy and coke for the rego inspection.

All i live in hope for is that Anna gets handed her hat next election. Traditionally Australians vote parties out rather than in and labour has had Qld for 20 odd (very odd) years. Its a pity the opposition isnt that flash either.

Just a reminder about political discussion and the TOS.
Let's try not to allow the thread to end up being a general political discussion on the state of affairs within the relevant governments.

Paid $1.33 a liter yesterday Chris... I remember back in the days of 75c/Liter being considered a little expensive..

My rego costs me $1016 for 12 months... and $563.20 for 6 months... When I lived in Victoria it was $475 for 12 months, regardless of the amount of cylinders... My V8 cost the same to register as my inline 6 turbo, same as my V6, same as my 4cyl turbo... same as my twin rotor turbo.. Up here, someone driving an RX-7 1.3L twin rotor turbo pays about $550 for 12 months, where as I with a 5.7L V8 pay $1016. This is apparently because the V8 is worse for the environment, and we pay compulsory 3rd party insurance, and they see a V8 as being more dangerous than a 1.3L turbo rotary...

In my experience, the V8, despite its cubic capacity, emits less gasses as it purrs down the highway doing 1450rpm @ 100kmph than a rotary does screaming along at 4000rpm @ 100kmph... Which one is a safer vehicle? the one that has constant, smooth delivery of of its 225kw of power throughout the rev range, or one that is seemingly gutless until 4000rpm when it comes on boost and then all of a sudden has a burst of 350kw of power? The one that is predictable, easy to handle, and weighs 1.5t, or the one that is completely unpredictable, a dog to handle and weighs 1t, with more power than the aforementioned?

Its a joke...

V8 drivers pay more to register their cars, they pay more to buy their cars, they pay more to keep fuel in them, they pay more to repair and service them... After all that, when you're my age, with tattoos and a shaved head in a V8 commodore, you get all the wrong kind of attention from the boys in blue whether you're doing the wrong thing or not... All these taxes and revenues apparently go into making the roads better, and making them safer... However... I challenge you... If you can find me a single 5km stretch of road within 80km of the brisbane CBD that is not uneven, bumpy, cracked or pot holed, I will indeed eat my own soiled shorts...

Welcome to the sunshine state, We rip you off left right and center, we have a law against anything that can be considered as people having a good time, we charge $2000 for personalized number plates and there's not a damn thing you or anyone else can do about it.

There was an 8c/litre tax rebate on fuel but that went months ago, it was $1.35/liter last week. They have also increased public transport fares by 40% just in time for back to school and bumped up electricity from 14c/Kw to 17c/Kw. Then the local councils have split water from the rates as it's set to skyrocket as well. It's never ending.

Does this mean you are now paying closer to the real cost of supplying the services? NSW and Vic have been subsidising the other states since federation. The week before last in NW Sydney diesel was 5c/l less than unleaded. Now it's 6c/l more.

Just to get the personalized plates here in QLD costs 2300 or there abouts.. I do not know what it costs to keep them because I would not pay 2300 for plates.. Ever...

I got personalized plates on all the cars I owned in Vic, because it was $345 for the plates, no extra fee per year to have them...

$2500 Alex. No on going fees. except standard annual rego.....
1 small plate for a bike is the same cost as a set of car plates.....

It's because in Qld personalised plates (PPQ) is a private company. Whereas in Vic (not sure about the others) it's controlled by Vic Roads.
