Storms

Attached is the radar image of a storm that hit my place this afternoon. 8.4mm of rain and hail in a little over half an hour, I was out fixing a fence damaged by a falling branch from yesterday afternoon's storm just before this hit.

I can tell you I was a little nervous hanging on to long strands of barbed wire with thunder approaching. I just managed to get it done and only got moderately wet driving the tractor back to the shed. Then we stayed in the shed for the duration to avoid the rain, hail and lightning... The hail was about 2 to 3 cm in diameter... probably not felt hat friendly.

The storm that damaged the fence yesterday, also brought down a power line across the bottom of our block. We were sitting on the front verandah having a quiet bourbon while the power was off and were a little surprised to find Country Energy coming in our front gate and turning into the bottom paddock. It was Ok though, we were suitably prepared.

In the attached radar image, my place in under the red area just south of Oberon.

I wonder what brought all these storms on? Let's see... ST-8i, CFW8A on the way... oh yeah, and my Lunt B1200 Blocking filter arrived today...

We've had some beauties up here on the north coast in the last 2 days. One storm cell went through near Casino and brought down trees, power out for over 24 hours. Unbelievable lightning last night.

Speaking of hats and electricty I had a work assosciate mate get electricuted, because a powerline arched to his akubra hat which had a small pool of water in the brim.

He was standing over 8m from the powerline...
