Copper shoots Kangaroo

Hi guys, I suppose some of you saw the photo where the policeman shoots a Kangaroo in the middle of Melbourne after it was run over by a car.

You should read some of the stupid comments about this, 150,00 people die in an earth quake, and some are worried about a bloody Kangaroo.

And yes they all eat meat, but don't want to know how it got on their table.

Some people are just unblievable.

I had Kangaroo at a fancy resturant in Perth. I asked the waiter "How was it killed?" the waiter replied "By Kenworth Sir"

When the waiters brought all our meals the waiter said to me " Your SKIPPY SIR"

agreed here mate.... apparently the cops said that it looked paralysed as the tail was still and its legs looked broken. I think he was probably putting it out of its misery. and as you said there are a hell of a lot more things to worry about in this world at the moment.

I eat roo more often than any other red meat. We should be farming them instead of cattle IMO.

We experienced something similar on an outback trip some years ago. Our trip leader had to dispatch a group of emus that had been cleaned up by a road train. Poor things thrashing about on the road, legs broken. Kids cried off and on for 2 days but what can you do, leave them in agony? I don't think so.

I agree with Leon. Many of city people think that meat grows in neat plastic packaging somewhere in supermarket.

This occurs on a daily basis for many police members on the outskirts of Melbourne alone, not to mention the rest of regional Australia. It is just another thankless task that the police members are trained to do in their duties.

I have read many of the comments to news sites, some screaming because major roads weren't shut down, or why wasn't the roo euthenaised with an injection. What rubbish!

Often groups such as the RSPCA and animal welfare groups and even the council ranger are not available or not willing to attend. In fact, often when the public call the RSPCA for this type of situation, they are told to call Triple-0 !!! I know this from first hand experience through my job.

Having said that I have the highest admiration for a small band of wildlife volunteers who cover the Northern suburbs of Melbourne: http://www.wildliferescuers.org.au/ They are a great group who are on call day and night. I have had to use them in my professional capacity, several times.
