I set up today to take some picture of AR1041 and was quite disappointed with its size, quite small, not what I expected at all.
It turns out I was imaging the wrong area of the sun, a new active region and sunspot have emerged. I'll let the experts tell me if this is indeed deserving of a sunspot designation, but I reckon it is, so I'll call it sunspot 1042.
Pictures below are matched to the SOHO orientation. An almost full solar disk is being processed (by AVIStack), but will be a little while yet.
Here's a combination of the three images of Sunspot 1042, two to show the details of the sunspot/active region and another to show the enormous prominence along the limb.
The small blue dot is an image of the Earth to scale(ish).
