There were many theories about who John Titor really was and the best theory I heard was a well known science fiction writer who was doing some research for a new book that never really happened. He was trying to create an event similar to what happened with the original war of the worlds radio story - panic gripped america etc..

Will we ever know who it was?? maybe one day..
