M45 taken from Vic South Star Party

M45 taken from Vic South Star Party with Modified Canon 300D using 300mm IS L lens piggybacked on top of Tak Fs-102.

20 x 5min ISO800. No darks. Image focused and captured with DSLR Focus 3.3.14. Aligned in Registar, Stacked in Images Plus. Process in Photoshop CS.

I did not get around to doing darks so this image has no dark subtraction so is a little noisy. When i get of my lazy a.. I will take some darks of same length and subtract them....

Best Regards
Chris Venter

Looks great even with you being "lazy". I love those spikes they are fantastic... what magic did you use to get them?

no magic on the spikes. Its the Iris on the 300mm lens that causes them.

Great shot Chris,

Another with a Canon 300mm L series lense....you guys should get rid of them...to me.

Curious Chris....what couldn't you do in IP that you needed to do in Photshop....I dont know all the functions of IP yet but it looks to have everything and more then Photoshop.

Tony,

While you can do most of your processing in IP it lacks the functionality for fine tuning that photoshop has. Escpecially with regards to the handling of layers. Using layers is in integral part of image processing. The ability to duplicate an image into layers and then blend various parts with different processing to gether is what makes Photoshop so powerfull. Plus using curves and levels is much easier in Photoshop than IP.

I highly reccomend Ron wodowskis Zone Processing System book, which is essentially a how to manual for using Photoshop to process images. (its not published yet, but if you buy it now you can download electronic version). When you see the things you can do with Photoshop you will realise the Power. IP is great for doing your RAW conversions, your stacking, dark subtraction, inital stretching, deconvolution etc.... but when it comes time to make it all look pretty you cant beat photoshop!

Best Regards
Chris
