Small outer region of LMC-closeup

Hi everyone

We haven't been on line for quite some time due to personal matters. David's mum sadly passed away and I had an unexpected 10 day stay in hospital.

But we're both really glad to be back on board again now and hope to get out imaging again this month.

Our last imaging session was on October 11th when we zoned in on this small outer region of the LMC in search of something different.

We found this small area particularly interesting consisting of many small emission nebulae an OC and to the left a diamond shaped GC.

The details

Celestron C9.25 using 6.3 focal reducer at 1485 fl
Canon 40D unmodded
EQ6 Pro mount

The image is a total exposure of 74 mins
Processed in PS CS2

My sincere condolences for the the loss of Davids mum. A mum is a mum and because they have been very special people throughout our lives, losing them is indeed very sad - please give David a big bear-hug from me . Oh and one for you too Barb, now that you are out of hospital

Yes, good to see your back in the swing .

I hope you don't mind me offering some constructive criticism of this image? To me this image somehow doesn't look like a photograph/image, it looks more like a kind of airbrush painting with a deffinite flat unnatural look..? It just doesn't look quite real if that makes sense..? I am not sure what in your processing routine might be causing this..?

Then again, what is a green and blue narrowband image if not un-real

Just my impressions and I may be just not seeing it right , hope I haven't offended

Mike

Sorry to hear about your mum's passing, David. Condolences to you both. Keep well. Interesting LMC. Never quite seen like that before. Have to say I like it. Something else

condolences for David`s loss and hope you are feeling better as well.
Nicely framed and I love the composition. Color balance looks pretty good as well.
Maybe a bit like Mike has mentioned? color depth looks a bit lost? especially the brighter Ha parts as well as the OIII parts. Nothing another repro won`t fix.
cheers Gary

Condolences to you both and glad to hear you are up and about again Barb.

In regard to the image I have to agree with Mike. The blues are like aqua marine and the black point looks badly clipped to my eyes. Perhaps I am seeing it wrong too. Did you have to sharpen it a lot and then use a noise reduction on it?

I would like to see another process perhaps.

Thanks guys for your input. I see now where you're coming from.

I guess I have overdone the processing.

At one point I desaturated the highlights as I thought they were too bold and I think this has given a flat feel to the image.

What a boo boo. Maybe I can use the excuse of suffering from post anesthetic disorder

Oh well back to a reprocess and I will post it again soon.

Barb

Sorry to hear of your loss and illness.
The image is of NGC 1783 left and NGCs 1760,61,63,69,73,76 at right.
NGC 1763 is the large blue bean shape.
