Thank you all for such a warm welcome to the "nuttery".
Mike, I have been looking at the forum for a little while now and I already have seen a lot of "interesting and fun stuff" and look forward to contributing when I can.
Houghy I have been called a lot of things over the years, mostly from my wife (some of them printable), but never royalty!
Fringe Dweller, thanks for your kind words about the colour edition of our book. I was planning to say little about our publication, because, although I am one of the authors, I suppose I am technically also a vendor and have no intention of infringing on the guidelines of this wonderful forum. I ofcourse would be happy to respond to questions and suggestions at any time (on or off forum). Juat one comment in relation to our new colour. We have tried to be as functional as possible and still meet the prettty commercial realities. What I mean by functional is we have tried to make it as 'red torch' friendly as possible. For example, that's why where you see yellow and red backgrounds (such as in the twilight skyviews) we have switched to black text and outlines for the planets. I would be interested to find, as the year goes on how you find the book under red light. Constructive criticisms are most welcome! With the 3 of us being long term amateurs, long before Quasar (which also is a parttime concern - we all have day jobs), we value feedback from our community.
(shutup Dawes, that's enough gas bagging!)

Hi 33South,
Interesting question. For those who don't know, William Dawes was Australia's first astronomer, having arrived with the First Fleet.
My relatives have tried to trace a connection many times over the years but couldn't go back far enough. But as far as they could go we were still in Australia - so the short answer is MAYBE. So astronomy might be in my blood! Unfortunately the early records are poor and this wasn't helped by convict women, who when they had a child with an officer, would often give the child the father's name (whether they were married or not).

I believe that this was quite common certainly in England not just officers but any male person of note who.....
My grandmothers family name was Huxley which was acquired in this way.

I'm prob the only 'AA' who uses a green LED torch. My eyes don't like red LEDs @ night. 
Will see how I go with new maps. L.
