Ordered the New scope.

I have ordered the new scope and am excited about seeing what it can really do. It wont be here for several weeks, so hope fully the weather will abate and bring the long awaited summer.

Hmmm, well the mount is an Skywatcher EQ6 with sky scan, but can you guess what the OTA is?

Should I keep you in suspense? Nah. Yes Mike you were right. It is a C9.25 XLT OTA. With the metal tube rather than the carbon fibre job. I am also getting bobs knobs for it, an SCT cooler and JMI electric focusor.

Nice one Paul I think you'll like the JMI over the Meade Microfocuser. Three speed and easily adjustable backlash.

Rumples!

I guessed it. The C925 ...

I'm tellin' ya... the Force is strong with this one

And you're setting up exactly the same rig I'm putting together, right down to the JMI, EQ6 and SkyScan.

It'll be good to have someone to compare notes with

Netwolf, did not know H0ughy had his mount reworked. What did he have done? The mount looks very solid to me, view it this morning.

Cooool

Always interested in what the experts spend their 'astro budget' on and reading objective reviews on a wide range of equipment - another plus for IIS as opposed to somewhat boring 'dedicated' forums.

Theres always decisions and compromises to be made when buying gear so anything that helps is a plus.

Sounds a great set-up!!!

I am curious though, as a newbie, as to what difference your new set-up will achieve over your previous equipment?

Cheers, I look forward to the reports and pictures,
Graeme

Hogly my current setup is very good for imaging DSO's and general planetary work. However, the mirror figure just lacks a little for planetary work. I am primarily aiming at planetary imaging now and so the Mirror of the 9.25 better suits my purposes. It is the most often used SCT for planetary imaging and considered the best SCT for the job. I am also looking forward to see the alleged differences in performances that can be achieved.

The Meade is a great setup, and I will no doubt miss its many features once it is sold.

33South, I will do a review of the setup once I get it in my hands and of course the obligatory clear skies.

Thanks for the interest.

Congrats Paul......I love this new stuff and so will you.

The work mentioned on houghy mount is basicly a service where the greese is removed and replaced with a much better lubricant...plus a service and adjustment.

I had the same done on mine.

Hi Rumples, has to be a pretty good move. I've yet to see any planetary images really exceed what I've seen produced with the 9.25. Wondered whether it's part design and quality and part just that this is the best overall compromise in large aperture without suffering overly much from seeing effects. I'm still vascilating on whether I want to get another scope to play with while the Mewlon's away - could be C11 or 9.25 or maybe a 10 inch newtonian if I could find a slightly longer focal length than the synta stuff.

Anyway best of luck. From what I've heard the re-work, regrease etc on the EQ6 is worth it and gets rid of most residual backlash and a fair bit of PE.

enjoy!

I think it's more to do with the smaller central obstruction. The focal lengths of the 9.25 mirrors are slightly different to what is normally used in a SCT, so the obstruction is less % area of the main mirror. Closer to what is used in a Mak. Although, you are correct about the seeing, so probably a bit of that as well.
