The IAU Committee on Small Bodies Nomenclature has approved
the name "Weywot" for the satellite of the transneptunian minor
planet (50000) Quaoar that was announced on IAUC 8812 (cf. MPC
67220).
Weywot (pronounced /ˈweɪwɒt/, Tongva [weiwot]) is the sky god of the Tongva people, son and first creation of the creator god Quaoar. The Tongva have reportedly chosen the name Weywot for the moon of the likely dwarf planetQuaoar, which was named after the creation god.
