Interest in a QLD IIS Astro Camp/fest

Hi everyone,

A couple of us (ponders1, striker, astroron & myself) have been discussing the possibility of a QLD Ice In Space Astrofest/Camp!

The dates are to be decided.... but because of anzac day and the may day long weekend in qld, instead of a couple of days, we were looking at possibly a week long camp!

I'm trying to find out interest and where people would come from and how far they would be prepared to travel!

About the Poll
you can choose multiple options in the poll.

These options are to give the organisers an idea of Where people are travelling from, and how long they would be prepared to travel to get to a site!

Note: this poll will help us in determining a site!

Sounds great !
After speaking with Ray (Hamilton Island)
I am encouraged to go to NACAA myself.
All sounds like a great reason for a 2 week holiday !

Let me know the details closer to the date. Where is the proposed site? Will there be a big turnout? I kind of like traveling out the Mark's place at Glenore Grove which is only about 45min to an hours drive from Brisbane but that might be too close to the Brissie light domes....

The reason for the poll is to find out where everyone is coming from and how far people are willing to travel. We will decide after the poll closes n the location, depending on if the location is available for the period. (last week & weekend of april).

Being a week long affair, you will be looking for a place with facilities? Maybe Camp Duckadang would be suitable.
If it was for a long weekend, I'd offer my place for the event. Dark skys and only 10 km to town. We can accomodate quite a few people dormatory style.
But I love the idea, and where ever it is held, I'll make the effort to come.

Ok back from Melbourne....I saw some terrific skies down their...the only problem was I was 37,000ft high and in Boeing 737....hehe

I will be their no matter where it is...as long as its a dark site.

You betcha, I'll be there as long as it is south of Cairns and north of Brisbane. That caravan park Cania Gorge sounds perfect but it's on a creek called Three Moons creek, wont that be a bit bright????? Cania gorge is inland from Miriam Vale but looks far enough away from Gladstone to avoid Gladstones sky glow. I reckon this would be a winner.

I was surprised with Gladstone...I only went 8KM's west of the Gladstone turn off from the bruce hwy last time I was up their....it was to a dam but cant remember the name...there was a caravan park on the dam aswell but the light polution was minimal....excellant for only 8km's west.

Saying that I would still like to go to an even darker site.

Cania gorge is one of the places on the list. However need to check that there is somewhere we can have as an observing site..

West of gladstone is a place called Bororen. It also has a national park with a caravan park close to it. However Gladstone being a mere 6-7hr drive north of Brisbane, I don't know if a lot of people would be willing to travel that far (hence the polL!)

Hi Xeelee. The first selection is for where you live and the other is for how far you would be willing to travel for the event
