UK Mail postal strikes - how bad is it?

Is the UK Mail service on strike, and how bad is it affecting local and international services?

I've just purchased an item on eBay, which I need in about two weeks. And then the comedy of errors commenced . After 3 emails requesting the total cost (spanning 4 days), I finally received the full amount and made payment immediately. Then I received an email that the seller is on holidays and not back until next week (another 2 days wasted), then I received an automated message informing me of delays due to the strikes. I'm not complaining as such, more amused at the sequence of events You know when you get a "feeling" that something is not going to go smoothly from the start?

I must admit I did not hear about it until tonight. I thought postal services only went on strike a week before Xmas? Or is that just an Australian thing?

Too many sequence of errors, i expect some stock issues more than delays, don't put any feedback on the seller until you know it is on its way to OZ.

I ordered a couple of books from a online UK book store on the 20/10/09. The website said at the time I ordered there was a mail strike that effected local mail and not international mail. As they didn't have one of the books in stock for one day, they sent them seperately. One turned up yesertday (9 days) and the other turned up today (10 days). I can't be any more happy then that. Hope your order goes well like mine
