K3 key

Has anyone else had trouble downloading the new key?
It was supposed to have come out on the 1st of this month.
Also, when I tried to register, the email bounces.

There is still no new key... like last time.
It seems he is busy with other things.
Sometimes I wander why he does not simply release his tools as freeware and be done with it.
This way, there are always some people who are frustrated (I also need this software right now, to test some aspects of my small eq3 mount with 200mm lens I am fiddling at the moment)

Conversely you could purchase the full product as I have. So the free version does come with a cost – convenience and freedom of use. Doesnt cost much

Yes, I know I can buy it..
But I am talking here about principle: Either it is free, or it is commercial.
He is trying to have it both ways, and sometimes this is not good strategy.

Yes I ran into the same problem the other night. Haven't done any imaging for almost 12 months. I am just starting to get the urge again now so I dragged the scope out on Wed. night and let it cool. Once the kids were in bed I took out the Toucam and laptop ..... Oh I need to renew the key for K3CCD. Aaaagh the key hasn't been updated!!!

Spent 10 minutes looking at Jupiter through the eyepiece (it looked like a nice steady night as well), then carted it all back inside and watched TV instead.

Last time this happened I tried a new program called wxAstroCapture. I found wxAstrocapture to be a better product, it ran more stable and it still had the important capture features such as a histogram. It is also free, and it doesn't require any key to be updated all the time.

Try Alignmaster instead. No need to drift align. Done in 5 min.

Thanks for the info. I have just downloaded it to try it out. Any software that includes a Linux version can't be half bad in my book.

The Gstar3 capture program from Mr Massey works with a variety of cameras, I'm told.
It has the added bonus of being able to put a time stamp on your frames.

Oh.. It is periodic error.
K3 does it in a very nice way, it produces the plot (and stores data for later FFT (Fourrier transform - which means transformation from time to frequency domain) automatically.
It is great for analysis of causes of mechanical problems in gearboxes and worm gear reductions.

Thanks.
So much to learn. It's never ending.

I've never been into the technical side of things. Mostly if someone tries to explain things to me, my eyes start to glaze over.
I'm a "show me what to do and I'll do it" sort of person.

So we are all, more or less :-)
Sometimes it is not easy to step aside from following others and ask "OK, why am I doing this, that way? There must be a better way.."
This is my problem ... Always trying to be different

J,

as Bojan says, K3 is a great bit of software. The drift feature is
probably duplicated in other similar packages but being familiar with
K3 I can thoroughly recommend it.
You can export the graph into Excel and draw your Periodic Error.
A picture is much more easy to interpret once it's in a graph form.
For refining polar alignment in a permanent setup I couldn't talk
highly enough of it.

Well worth the price.

Steve

I'm being mentored through this by Ponders, so I'll stick to what teacher says.
