Smile LHC News

Here's one of the article from the latest Bulletin of CERN...

LCH Taken with Philosophy

Don't be a bit surprised if the results from the LHC throw a spanner in the works of particle physics in particular and QM, Relativity in general. I'm expecting some rather bizarre results to come out of the LHC, as well as other, more normal results.

Interesting Carl. They seem to regard a major announcement as just a matter of time.

If that don't make any major discoveries there will be some very hard questions asked like "How come we spent a $gazillion to build an underground go kart track?" I really don't think that will happen. It's like Hubble, Spitzer or the VLT - the question isn't whether it is when .. and what .. will they find.

On the contrary a null result would be very significant.

The Michelson Morley experiment ended in a null result but revolutionized physics.

I haven't been following CERN, but am I right in saying that the thing is not operational yet?

Perhaps I phrased my comment poorly but I understand that. Anyway, Michelson Morley discovered 'something' when they couldn't find the aether.

Well yes and no.

It became operational, commenced functional checks of the ring, it then attacked itself by trying to commit particle suicide from the future, they then started fixing the ring during the winter shut-down and routine maintenance, and it is now being systematically cooled down for summer month operations.

We're all waiting to see if it has a nervous breakdown when it gets turned on again, thus requiring grief counseling on account of the earlier suicide attempt.

CERN now has the ring pumped full of drugs. This has subsequently affected the staff which have taken to making RAP videos instead of science (Cabin Fever perhaps).

“The Ring” is on suicide watch and may be sending out video tapes out to unsuspecting victims.

If you rent out the movie "Event Horizon" you can get up-to-speed within an hour or two.

Can someone let me know if I've missed anything???

...50 bucks says it needs an exorcism by next winter!
