Experiment with titanium oxide and water

Has any body got information about an experiment with titanium oxide and water and heat to extract hydrogen?

Thanks for that, I wish they could work faster on the project, I think it is the answer to our energy needs seeing most of the worlds Tatum comes from Australia

You can do the same thing using a solar panel and hydrogen fuel cell (available technology). Does anyone know if the process using titanium dioxide is any more efficient or less costly? An interesting thought, if all cars went hydrogen powered how humid would cities become?

It is a fantastic approach, I would say oil companies will block this system as much as possible. There is only one concern is that we are using up another possibly more important resource H2O. Let hope we can use salt water.

Sydney in late January couldn't get any more humid without exceeding the dew point - at 37C.

Andrew, with a few million cars pumping steam into the air I bet it could.

If the cars had a condenser on them water could be collected and reused or usde to water the gardon or tip down the drain so little water vapour poluting the atsmopher

what would be more interesing is to recycle the water to be used to regenerate the Hydrogen and Oxygen.

Hydrogen for the fuel and Oxygen reinjected back into the air intake. If it is successful the car could provide ongoing fuel supply. O2 could like Nitro for the car.

I think when this technology becomes viable it will take the present form of filling up with hydrogen at the bowser. Whether we burn it in an iternal combustion engine or feed it through a fuel cell is yet to be seen. It will be some time before the technology to recycle the water fast enough to sustain driving a car is produced.

If anyone is going to attempt to build a hydrogen generator unit to put on their vehicle i would strongly advise against it.

Hi All,

Just adding my bit to the discussion.

Energy can not be created. Is my first point.
Secondly, on average the sunlight on Australian soil dissipates about 1.47 Kwatthour/ sqM.

To accumulate 50KW in an hour the collector needs to be some 30sqmetres in area. (near 100% efficiency)
Perhaps docking into refuelling stations is a way to go. Certainly not car mounted refueling. There is simply not the required energy available short term on a small area. from sunlight. (Otherwise we all would have fried).

Cheers Marty
