NGC 253 from Sunshine Coast

Hi,

After a fantastic night at Burumbah on Sunday I thought I would have a serious crack at this galaxy. Set with my wonderful programmable remote I set off on my journey.

The first image is 19 x 10 Minute lights with 6 x 10 minute darks and 20 x flats and bias frames. Shot through W/O Flt 110 with my unmod Canon 400d ISO 800 guided with PHD, stacked in DSS and processed with photoshop CS3. Given the temperature was 20 c plus or minus one degree throughout the whole shooting I'm pretty happy with the noise level.

The second is a slight crop maybe 25%.

I have tried really hard with the processing but as always feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Mark

Maaarrkk!! Mate!!

Nice shot man.. really nice! there is a slight blue hint in the background, maybe just adjusting the blue levels a touch.. The noise level is very good considering the temperature.

The image as a whole is VERY nice. NGC253 is showing nice spiral detail... Something I couldnt manage with my 80mm... that extra 20mm of aperture has done you well!

Hang on, where are the diffraction spikes?

Very nice shot, processing looks good to me, but what would I know?

Great shot of a fine object Mark. I love the dust lanes in 253, and you've brought out a lot of detail in that one!

Thank yuo all. I had the scope set up the next day in anticipation for more data and then saw it coming over the horizon. Pack up time before the dust arrived. I'm off to the gold coast to pick up our new caravan and am pondering whether to pack the scope. Living dangerously!!!!!!

Got to be stoked with that Mark. Good detail and a clean histogram to boot. Well done.
