I have to say that I miss the days of Ansett too Eric. They were just a nice airline to fly with. Polite and attentive - plain good service.

I was upgraded to First Class on one of their new flights to/from Japan. It still remains my most enjoyable flight ever! The chef came to discuss the menu, make recommendations and find out how I wanted my meals prepared.

My hubby misses Ansett too.
5 weeks off every 7 months.
Cheap flights
free flights
Good people to work with
He took a redundancy package in '99. Two years before it went bust.

That's a tad unusual. You would have thought the planes, to be in relatively good nick. They are certainly not the oldest still in commision. I would have thought they could have been sold off and re-branded to "Guatamalan Airlines" or something.

Geez, I've flown in some rust buckets over my time. I must say witnessing a wing panel, de-rivet itself mid air was the best / worst. It didn't catch the wind and rip off completely, yet you could see it was not aerodynamic any more, causing spirals off the front lip.

They were trying to sell them not too far post "9/11". Lack of Buyers. Wikipedia "Ansett" tells what happened to all the planes.

The Ansett collapse cost me a lot of $$$ not to mention a few grey hairs. A lot of people were stranded when it went belly up. I have never forgiven Air New Zealand for their part in the collapse and will never fly with them ever.

Yep, I saw Global Rewards points vanish down the gurgler. But others did it much tougher, of course.

Tell me about it!! My Father had been flying with them, to NZ and back every week, since the points system came in. He had something ridiculous, like the equivalent of 3 round the world trips on points.
He was about to start giving them out to the kids, when the company went out. Was going to be our reward for not having him in Australia for 3 years, except on weekends.
