Hi, I am a new member who knows very little about astronomy. I have a telescope that I do not use -- it was given to me as a gift when I left the USA and I simply don't use it. I have no idea of its value and really need input from those in the field. It is a Celestron Nexstar8 with tripod and some lenses. Can anyone help out with a second hand value?

to IIS annie ! Nexstar 8 ah ! you've got a good scope there ,used value around $2800.00au If It's the model I think It is . If you have a pic of It post It so we can have a look ,there is a few different models I think.
to IIS Annie..If it's the same model, this link will give you an idea of the new price. http://www.astronomyonline.com.au/ca....html?cache=no
Eyepieces, depending on their type, would increase the value...I would imagine that if it's relatively new and in good condition my guess is that you may get perhaps 60-70% of the new value...but really, if you're in the snowy mountains it would be a shame not to use it.
Thanks for the input on the scope. I know I should use it -- you are right, where I live is dark and good viewing. I just don't get out with it though and need to convert the scope into food for cows (the drought!).
I will take some photos tomorrow and post them.
again, thanks
annie
Welcome to the Ice In Space Forum,
What a shame you have to sell your lovely telescope.hopefully, the time will come when things are better for you,and you might be able to replace it.
I hope you get a good price.
Thanks for all your input. I have finally got around to taking photos of the telescope and would appreciate any further input on what I could ask for it.
thanks again
annie
I got it in the USA in late 2000. I used it a bit there but have hardly had it out of the box since moving back here. I can't see a model number on it anywhere but it is definitely the model WITHOUT the GPS. I know they have come down a lot in price since I got this one, which is why I am asking for input on what I should ask for it -- no point in being unrealistic.
Like the others I would encourage you to keep the scope, its a good hobby and you sound like your in a good location to use it.
As to what you can expect for it, I would use the following as a guide only.
You can take a look at the following adds on Astromart for Used Nextstar 8 GPS and NonGPS scopes like yours. The price ranges from US $750 to US $1200.
Although I am tempted by the idea of a star party, sadly I must sell the scope. Thanks for your input. I will check out the links and then probably advertise it on the forum here as a first attempt.
thanks again,
annie
