NGC 253 2-frame mosaic

Hi,

After a promising start to the night I'm a little disappointed how
this turned out.
Seeing was very good at around midnight for the start of frame 1
(left hand end). I thought the focus was spot on but analysing the
frames afterwards showed a little softness of stars.
Hard to spot on the remote desktop laptop inside
Camera was turned so that the plane of 253 suited the framing of
a 2 set mosaic. I thought 2 would do...turns out I was wrong

The hardest part was to normalise levels between the two.
The join is pretty obvious.
Seeing had gone downhill after about 2am just as set 2 was finishing.

Hmm, not an easy task. The few times I have done these I used Paint Shop Pro as it remembers the settings for each adjustment for levels, curves etc. That way you are applying exactly the same amount to each image. When it came time to join, it only required a minor tweak in contrast to match up.

It's good fun though isn't it, this learning curve we go through.

Steve,

Regardless of the seam, you have picked up an enormous amount of detail there. That is brilliant!

Another one on the to-do list. I think I had a go at this when I had the SCT. But, I managed just 30 minutes of data before cloud put paid to that. That was over 3 years ago, hah!

Well done.

Regards,
Humayun
