My First Stack

That's right people... this is my first ever attempt at anything to do with pointing my camera up and capturing something interesting

Location: My holiday house at Phillip Island - more visibility than anywhere I know of.
Canon S5 iS
4 x 30 seconds
Photoshop 7
Layered the pics, reduced the opacity to 50% on the 3 foreground layers and flattened the image.
Maxed out the contrast and minimised the brightness.

The purple smudge is the result of the ccd not being able to handle the firmware update I installed on to the camera.
Not using the firmware and using factory 15 second exposures will rectify this.

The alignment obviously needs work...

Not bad for a noob who has no idea what he's doing

Nice one - artistic even.
Looks like you just missed the mothership passing overhead!

Try DSS for stacking - it's a free program...

Looks like you're fighting against the limitations of your equipment - a man after my own heart so to speak!
Well done.

Not too bad at all. I kinda like the purple, looks like there is a giant purple star out there somewhere.

I bet the views and viewing from Phillip Island are amazing.

WoW!! That is tops!!! Especially for your first shot! It's hard enough to find what you want to photo, let alone capture a good shot.

Download a freeware program like Nebulosity, to remove background colour.
I ran your image through and got rid of some of that purple cast.
