Jup August 12th in good seeing

Hi all,

Well, I was going to give last night a miss and catch up on some sleep, but the weather was great and the sky looked good.

At the start of this imaging session the seeing was good my image was very stable showing considerable detail, even the B channels looked good. My estimate of the seeing was 7 to 8 / 10. During the middle of this 2 1/2 hr session the seeing dropped off to about 5 to 6 /10 but gradually improved to the end back up to about 7 / 10.

The images from the start of this session of the GRS are the most detailed I have taken this apparition and the last two images, with the Bird Strike are possibly the most detailed images I have ever taken of Jupiter. I have posted only RGB images as they really are as detailed as my R channel images.

I have also posted an R channel animation of very high res images of the length of this imaging run.

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/uploads...812JupAnim.gif

Thanks for looking.
Regards
Trevor

Sensational Trevor,

I'm just hoping for one night of good seeing, glad you kept catching up on sleep for just a bit longer.

Thanks Mike, it was a very nice night and things just all fell into place. I think my Peltier really made a difference.

Thanks Steve, I reckon I have had some nights imaging the planets when the data from the red channel has not been as good as the blue channel was last night.

Thanks David, I am most pleased to have got some decent data for this opposition of Jupiter. I think with some more time put in processing, that I could even get some more from this data.

Lovely work mate. Love the colour and processing is pretty smooth. Well done. Just need a little of that seeing here.

Trevor,

As always, spectacular images!

I really enjoyed the animated GIF, too. Are you able to put an RGB one up, as well?

Well done!

Humayun

Thanks Phil, yes the impact is stretching out rapidly and but for the good seeing, would have been a lot more difficult to resolve.

Thanks Anthony, I hope the Bird Strike survives long enough for you to capture it again before it becomes unrecognizable. It would be fitting, as you were the first to image it, for you to capture its death throes, so to speak.

Thanks Dave, I don't think we have much longer to capture this impact feature before it completely breaks up.

Thanks John, I have just sampled some Victorian weather, I have been down to Bendigo to give an astronomy presentation at the Bendigo Science & Discovery Centre. The weather was a lot different to that of Broken Hill, that is regarding the amount of cloud.

Thanks Paul, I wasn't going to image on this particular night as I had a 700 km drive on the Friday down to Bendigo. The synoptic chart looked promising but I thought I still may have been right on the edge of the jetstream. When I was setup and looking at the image on my laptop I couldn't believe how lucky I was. I reckon there have been times, especially with the Saturn storms, that the seeing has been so crook that the red channel didn't look as good as the blue channel did for this night on Jupiter.

Thanks Humayun, I really do appreciate your comments and yes I think I may have enough RGB's for an animation, although the red channel was very nice.

Thanks Kev, not sure but we thought we may have seen you at the RTA work site on the Mildura road on our way to Bendigo on Friday, we put down the windows and young Christopher and Mother Bear gave you a wave.

Man, you guys keep upping the ante on detailed pics. OMG!

I just took a shot (1) of Jupiter on Friday (finally clear in Melbourne) and I was happy with one shot of that (it was a test, just to see what detail I could get).
But it's nowhere in the vicinity of this set of yours Trevor.

It just blows my mind the level of detail we get today from us Aussie's.
Oi Oi Oi!

Keep it up.
