jupiter, 4th August

Some more good seeing last night. This time I've oriented Jupiter with North at the top, I personally like this view better :-)

cheers, Bird

Hello Anthony (Bird),

May I ask what the caption below your image signifies?

The terms CMI, CMII, and CMIII are a mystery to me.

Regards,
Tony Barry

Jeez that's a pretty planet!

Especially when its captured so well, it feels like I'm in orbit.

Absolutely beautiful shot, I agree, this inverted view seems to feel right, possibly because the dark South pole seems right at the bottom? I dunno?

No WIS this time? aww man!

Great work, Anthony.

Cheers

Chris

I can't believe the detail you get.
However, if you are reaching the limits of your equipment and as I see you will strive for yet better images, what next?
Bigger newtonian, better optics, better camera, new dark site?
Very few are so dedicated to their craft as you.
Kudos !

Thanks guys. Tony the CMI/II/III refer to the longitude of the planet that's on display - there are three different longitude systems because different parts of Jupiters atmosphere rotate at different speeds.

Check out this entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jupiter#Orbit_and_rotation

David, I'll be moving up to a 16" mirror soon, that will help. Also a new camera is on the horizon , maybe for next year.

cheers, Bird

Excellent Wiki entry, you must be pleased.
at the end of the day are you able to enjoy the experience or is it just hard work?

superb image Anthony, I love the fine filagree edge on the SEB and NEB. That lovely little spot just on the southern edge of the SEB is simply wonderful. I feel the need for some superb seeing like that too.

Simply Stunning Anthony,

When I initially looked at and savored the depth of detail in this image, I thought, this is as good as it gets. But as I know you are updating your equipment, I really look forward to what you will produce down the track as you have already set the bar extremely high.

Regards
Trevor

Magnificent

Just an exquisite picture. It's amazing how you're able to provide so much to look at in one image. The extra effort you spend truly reaps rewarding dividends. Thanks!
