After about 9 months of observation only, I've finally made my first kill! Admittedly, I've already done some Lunar DSLR stuff, but this is my first recognisable image of a planet. Be harsh if you want to, you can't dampen my spirits right now. Watch out Birdie, here I come!

An hour wrestling with Registax. I went back to Registax2 so that I could understand it.

Michael if you are not already doing it, I would suggest that you record all of your capture settings for each and every capture on paper. It will help you to improve and provide a record to compare the finished image with different capture settings.
G'Day Mike, welcome to the dark side... as soon as you can afford it I'd suggest buying a decent quality 2x or 3x barlow to increase your image scale - even so there's quite a bit to see in this image here.
I'm very flattered about compliments on the colour, Carl, because I'm very colourblind; it prevented a career in aviation. The tradeoff is that I seem to have better night vision than most and have maintained 30/20 acuity into my forties.
I've been given a lead on how to put a 2" focuser on my Mak which will allow me to use other lenses, including my 2"ED Barlow, for a bigger piccie. Thanks Bird, it's nice to have royalty comment; congrats on you catapult into asto-heaven.
It's very gratifying though, to produce any recognisable image at present.
I wish I still had the eyesight I had when I was younger. I had eyes like an eagle....could see things miles away. I still can to some extent but since my near sight has been gradually getting worse it's affected everything else as well....namely sore and congested eyes and I need time to adjust to looking into infinity. Won't stop me from observing though
I gather, Carl, that if you are loosing your vision, you've seen your 25th birthday. I applaude diving back into study later in life, it's a big leap given the economic times. All the best!
I see too that you are a cyclist. Before I'd seen my 25th birthday, I'd spent four years as a fulltime Pushie-courier in Sydney.
David, you live in one of my favourite cities. I'm a big fan of being able to park a motorcyle on the footpath - extremely civilised - extremely convenient. WRT my vision; I can't really tell you what an advantage I have because I've never seen normally. I'm pretty sure it helps with finding lenses and stuff in the dark, and with focussing too I should imagine.
Ta for the advice on record keeping Trev. It will mean more of an effort at organisation. Fortunately my Nikon software atomatically records its settings. That'll be of help when I venture into DSO's. But that can't be done until I have my HEQ6Pro. So keep the accolades coming lads, it all assists with my plea to "She who must be obeyed" on financing my mount. I'm dramatising, she actually gives me a pretty free reign.

Yeah....Masters degree, and not cheap either but luckily I get FEE Help. If I go onto the PhD, it'll help even more (I have $100000 or so to use, so that's pretty good).
