Who's going to Border Stargaze?

So who's going?

I'll be there Fri-Sun (2 nights), visual only. Look forward to catching up with lots of people, and enjoying the fantastic program ASAW have prepared for us!

Cheers -

Hi guys

Just over 130 guests have registered for Border Stargaze - and its is filling very fast.

We have close to 900 registered for the the Astronaut presentation on the Wednesday (19th August 2009)

and

395 students for the on site activities on the Thursday and Friday!

In total - 1160 . and we still have three weeks to go.

Cheers Petra d.

Petra - just a question regarding the students on Thursday and Friday - are they going to be anywhere near the imaging area? I plan to leave 3 scopes/mounts set up and ...well....

Hi Chris

Students are restricted to the Comodome, solar scope activity and the Conference area - where we have the majority of all school activities (10am - 2pm), they are supervised by teachers at all times (who are also given clear direction re movement and respect for equipment in the observing area).

We will also have roving volunteers (in hi-viz vests) - who will include the imaging area in their area of responsibility - however I would suggest that during the day your scope/s should be covered and small items secured.

If you have any concerns, please let me or a volunteer know asap.

Cheers Petra d.

Yes, I agree very busy - it is our major outreach / star party of the year. Having said that, we also have a great group of volunteers who give up a great deal of time to ensure smooth sailing. And yes, cross fingers for a clear event.

Cheers Petra d.

Hi Rob,
I'll be there, with my LB16. Finally got around to buying an Argo Navis, and while I've been using it in Melbourne, this will be the first dark sky workout for it...
If I can get the time to make a cover for my trailer I might be able to bring up the 10 inch I built back in 2001.

Looking forward to it, and catching up with you...

Peter

Averted at Border Gaze

G'day Rob,

I will be there, however, the better half won't be coming with, so will be flying solo, so I will be in need of some people to help me get rid of the Port i bring down, as drinking it all on my own will cause me to see everything with averted vision AND DOUBLE TOO!!!

Trent

Hi all,

I will be there representing 3RF Australia (www.3RF.com.au), as will Lachlan McDonald, Tony Buckley and Peter Read. Between the 4 of us, we will be taking a 30"/F4.5 SDM, an 18"/F4.5 Obsession, a 14"/F4.5 SDM truss and a 12"/F5 Binocular Telescope.

All attendees will be welcome to share the views through our high quality large aperture scopes.

Cheers,
John B

John,

That sounds fantastic. What a great range of scopes to peek through.

See you there.

Does anyone know the biggest scope that will be there if its not the 30"?
