Its probably absolutely no consolation, but its not much better over here. 100% cloud cover, but dry for the moment. Been like this for over a week, with the occasional gale and heavy rain. Starting to get astro withdrawals here too.

Yep, definitely your fault Mark!!
Well, that the end of Saturn for this year I think. By the time this weather clears, It'll be well and truly hitting the horizon.

Well it is winter and it is Melbourne. What were you expecting. This is a normal winter.

Since the drought started. It's a good sign. We need hot summers and cold winters to be normal.

There were lots of clear nights last week. Then the weekend comes and BAM crap Melbourne weather moves in faster than you can say "wish I lived in Broome".

Had a nice clear night last Wed.
Not too good since though.
But as the Buddhists say, 'It is a chance to practice our patience'.

How's Lake Bellfield looking?
The poor thing was a shadow of it's former self the last few times we've been out there, not to mention Lake Lonsdale!!!

Come to think of it, Tibet wouldn't be such a bad place to take the scope!

Not shocking at all, this weather has filled my 2 large water tanks, and those of a lot of other folks up this way.
I now have enough water for at least 12 months, 78,000 litres, so there is a definite good side to this weather!
Cheers

I've officially lost my cool. I cant stand it anymore. Months and Months of goddamn constant cloud Being patient is one thing, but being patient for months at a time is another all together, especially when other cities are getting clear weather.
Melbourne is one of the worst places on this Earth for astronomy, infact, it's not even worth practicing it here because all it brings is stress and rage.
Even though I have other hobbies, after a while they get old, and am craving to see some goddamn stars again.
The Vodka bottle has become my new telescope, because here in this bloody place, there is nothing else to do
Nothing would make me more happier than not seeing another patch of bloody cloud or a drop of rain for the next year.

Sab, my friend, I'm getting close to feeling the same. I've had no serious observing since the March Snake Valley camp. I cleared this entire coming weekend in my diary many weeks ago and, according to the forecast, I'll be sitting at home yet again. But, of course, some mornings when I get up early to go to work have been beautiful lately - almost balmy weather and clear skies. Ah well! I take a deep breath and keep tinkering with the astro gear in the garage!

Hey Erick, That's tough mate, I can't remember the last time I was out. To be fair though, there were quite a few clear nights over the last 2 weeks, but I was doing nightshift at work so couldnt take advantage of those. Unfortunately, I've been laid off from my job, so that just compounds my foul mood atm.

This weekend looks like rubbish, although Friday and Saturday have a faint hope (looking at weather charts with northerly winds forecasted - but then again look what happened during these last few days of northerly winds... )

It seems many mornings over the past few weeks have been surprisingly clear, but I always wake up too late (as dawn begins), I could've got some moon and Mars observing in with the 4.5" newt. I rarely observe the moon and now I have an urge to view it!
One day, it'll be clear....one day....
