Electromagnetic Spectrum Chart

I made this chart a while ago to help me to come to grips with the various bands in the EM spectrum and to visualise wavelengths and frequencies.

The wavelengths were gathered from a couple of different sources ( I think Wikipedia ranked pretty high in the sources) so there may be some dispute over some values.

It's set up to print as an A3 sheet for a poster for the Obs, but yuo should be able to porint it on A4 and still be legible... just!

If you would like I can zip and post the original Excel workbook.

Thanks for this, It is quite useful, and I have no real dispute with the values you have quoted.
Please post the Excel sheet, as that could be useful as a general reference.

Thanks for posting this Al!

Interesting that you have the category of microwaves starting from 1m wavelength or 300MHz. It may be a pure definition, but I havent heard any in the radio business refer to sub 1GHz wavelengths as microwaves. Usually 300MHZ to 1GHz wavelengths are referred to as UHF.

I knew it!

Feel free to correct the Excel workbook and repost it if you feel strongly about it. It could be a wiki-document in its own right.

In Remote Sensing microwaves are defined to be in the range 1mm to 1m wavelength, which signals penetrate the atmosphere in almost any conditions. Yes the range includes some radio frequencies. I think it's not so much a pure definition as a different one based on a different criterion.

I'm sure the boundaries of a lot of the bands are blurred for various reasons.
