Firstly, thank you for entering your images in the 2009 CWAS "David Malin
Awards". We had a near record number of entries this year. All the images
received will be exhibited at the CSIRO Parkes Observatory Visitors Centre
for the entire month of July and especially during the CWAS AstroFest and
Parkes Observatory Open Days on 18-19 July.
The judging of the entries has been completed by Dr David Malin. Those
entrants who have been awarded prizes will be notified shortly.
On behalf of the CWAS AstroFest Organising Committee, I thank you again for
your contributions to this year's "David Malin Awards".
Regards, John Sarkissian

judging seems to be over, and its somewhat quiet, last year created quite a bit of interest. perhaps no-one entered ? So did you have a go, i put one in for the first time, i thought id dip my toe in just to see how it all went, no expectations of getting even a place, but thought the experience might be interesting. it seems to be the one that creates the most attentionfor those who went in it in previous years roughly what is the entry numbers... ive only seen a pic from mikes website showing a couple dozen pics at most (presume they are the winners). any info apreciated just want to knowhow it all works. clive.
I was privileged enough to get a email for one of my images. There is a story behind it, which makes it even more amazing for me. Congratulations to the other imagers that made the grade, i will be more than happy with an honorable mention (I am assuming it is that). this is the first time i have entered in this competition and to get recognition in the International Year of Astronomy is something special. BTW i havent told my wife yet
Congrates to all who have had their work recognised in this the International Year of Astronomy.
To have your work recognised in anyway at all by the Pavarotti of Astrophotography, regardless of whether you are the overall winner, receive a category win or even an honorable mention means you are deffinitely a real astrophotgrapher.

Ok just re-thought these choice of words ... we are "all" real astrophotographers, I just meant that to have something you have done recognised by David is pretty cool and gives just that bit more meaning to and reward for all the long hours out at the scope and in front of the computer...

Mike
Yes Mike, i sort of gathered what you meant by what you wrote, though i do think that there are some out there who take excellent images and only show them to people very close to them. I really believe that there are is a lot of hidden and undiscovered talent out there in photon land....
You and Eddie, Peter, Fred etc who are legends also help make it the event that it is.
I just told the wife - she rolled her eyes........
I have just been perusing the CWAS site and looking at last years winning and honourably mentioned entries alongside pics of the people behind the pics - lots of familiar names who DO have faces. Very much looking foreward to seeing this years offerings of delight.
Legend? Nah....I have no expectations this year due sheer lack of data (how drab has this Sydney weather been) but it will be great to catch up with the usual list of suspects at Parkes over a beer or two!

Wadaya mean no expectations??? ..you are already an award winner in your category, be happy with that, the rest is semantics really.
and yes, drinking a few beers while listening to Fred Watson strum his guitar is a bonus too
Really? I thought Eddie T, the team from Sydney Obs and pro shooters from the SMH had also entered (well, OK I know they did)
Nup...it's not over 'till Pavarotti sings
No I meant your a winner just for being notified ya dope Who takes out the category is really only icing on the cake and it could usually go to just about any of the "finalists" (ie all those who have been notified). You know, like trying to pick your best from this selection:
