Anyone around Cairns?
Hi all, I'm considering bringing my scope up north with me on a holiday with Leisa in August, maybe 3 weeks worth of time around the Cairns area. With any sorta luck I'll get some imaging time on Jupiter where it's close to the zenith :-)
... umm, and some touristy stuff during the day as well.. :-)
I need to find the right sort of accommodation for this, some sort of farmstay just outside Cairns with lots of open skies and not too busy would be ideal - if anyone knows of somewhere like this then please let me know the name or contact details and I'll start ringing around and see what I can find...
I've only been to Cairns once and that was about 15 years ago, so I have no real memory of the area.
I'm also trying to work out how to get the scope there and back... I'll have to ship some of it ahead of me by courier so I'm also wondering if anyone in the area would mind receiving and babysitting a box (maybe 0.5m x 0.5m x 1.5m) with part of my OTA inside. It'll be light but it takes up a lot of room in the car that I can't really spare if Leisa is coming along (and she didn't like the idea of travelling separately :-)).
If anyone in the area can help out then I'd appreciate it - any information would be good, the accommodation guides I have don't seem to cater for astronomers :-(
