First go at deep space obj,47 tuc

Hey all
Heres my first go at a deep space object. Coolpix 4300 handheld to lx90{15m eyepiece}.
This is a single 1 minute exp. I took more and tryed to stack but i have no idea how to use regi so i gave that up for the night.
Ive got 6 1 minutes so once i work out how to stack{help!} it might be a good image.

I cant figure out how to insert or attach the image, but I'll try.

Well Josh, it's there! Nice try. I too have to learn all the stuff you are having trouble with, Registax etc. I have no idea how to use it yet.

Oh well, it's fun learning. Keep up the effort and good luck.

Great first try!

Next time, save it as a jpeg rather than a pdf.

If you'd like, i can try and stack the images for you. Just zip them up and email them to me, or upload them somewhere if you've got some webspace.

Level adjust green, red, blue individually. Then HSV decompose to extract V (value) channel.

In more detail (for GIMP 2.*):

1. Layer -> Colours -> Levels
Now tweak max. input and gamma for red, blue and green channels. I put max in to the highest value in the image and gamma to between 2 and 1.5, depending on visual appearance.

2. Filters -> Colours -> Decompose. Choose HSV and uncheck "Decompose to layers" (i.e. make three separate images not 3 layers in one image). Hue and saturation are basically just noise, so chuck them out. The remaining value channel is what I've posted.

Hey, that was clever Steve. When I do all my shots with my TouCam I'll post them in here and you can tweak them all. The ultimate lazy Astrophotography

Hey there Josh. You gotta be hooked on the sport now. I notice you are at Byron I am West of you up in the hills.. South of Tabulam and Drake, East of Tenterfield. You should at least get yourself an adaptor sozyacan attach the camera to your scope. Getting this result by holding the camera at the eyepiece is really somethingelse. How long an exposure can you take with your camera? anyways getchaself an adaptor cause even with your app. with your sky you will get great results. Most of my stuff (besides widefield) I use a little 80 x 400 mm Skywhatcher refractor of $200 worth. My point is you will surprise yourself what you can do with limited app.
Best wishes.. go up to the light house and give me a wave.
Alex

WOW! amazing!! you managed to track handheld using a dob for a minute!!!! never heard of tht being done before! you learn something new everyday :-))) Go the mighty CP/dob combo!! looks excellent! well done Josh (and Steve)
I thought there were cheaper adaptors than $150 - I saw a couple of adapters on a site mentioned here recently for much less than that?

Hey im back now. Thanks alot for all the advice. Im now my girls worst enemy,she dreads me turning on the computer to have a quick try at fixing an image, as it involves me constantly asking for a hand{just a quick look please}
Its never quick.
Thanks Steve. I had no idea how to start. Ill try that in the morning and if it works out ill take some more. I have heaps of images kinda like it but i thought they were all for throwing away.
Hey Ken thats what i was thinken. Ill just keep posting the fuzzies and Steve wont be able to help himself.

Hey Alex.
Im not really in Byron. Im in the hills behind{back of Mullumbimy} I put in Byron as i thought everyone knows it. Only 10 mins away from the theme park anyway.
You'd be just over the hills a bit.
Ive got lots of mars shots. Still trying to get the hang of stacking. Ill post one if i can work it out. Or give them to someone that knows how..
